VT420

VT420 allows you to connect to hosts that support terminal mode up to VT420. It also has the multiple session capability.

Making connections using VT420

Select VT420 from Windows 'programs' list to open up the connection dialog box. Enter the system name or its IP address of the system you want to connect to. Or if you have setup Host Editor, you can click on the drop-down menu to select from the list.


Click on 'OK' to make the connection. If next screen comes up, you know the connection is correctly established.

General setup for VT420

From VT420 connection screen, click 'Setup' to view the drop-down menu. Select 'General Setup' to open up next dialog box.

Display setup for VT420

From VT420 connection screen, click 'Setup' to view the drop-down menu. Select 'Display' to open up next dialog box.


In this box, you can adjust the terminal display area for better viewing.

Keyboard setup for VT420

From VT420 connection screen, click 'Setup' to view the drop-down menu. Select 'Keyboard' to open up next dialog box.


In this box, you can choose the keyboard type and character mode, enable/disable margin bell and adjust backspace key.

Setup Auto Login for VT420

From VT420 connection screen, click 'Setup' to view the drop-down menu. Select 'Auto Login' to open up next dialog box. Auto Login can save you from having to login every time with the connection.


From this dialog box, enter remote system's name or IP address, or select from the drop-down menu if you have setup Host Editor; type the login account name and password; then check the box "Enable auto login". Click on 'Save' and you have complete the Auto Login setup.

Printer setup for VT420

From VT420 connection screen, click 'Setup' to view the drop-down menu. Select 'Printer' to open up next dialog box.


The selection that requires attention here is the "Mode". The 'Nomal' mode will not print until the printing instruction is issued. The 'Auto' mode will print whenever a LF (line feed) character is received.

Keymap for VT420

From VT420 connection screen, click 'Setup' to view the drop-down menu. Select 'Keymap' to open up next dialog box.


Click on button 'Edit' to open up a vertual keyboard display for keymapping.


The general steps for key mapping are:

  1. Select a Key on the keyboard: click on it to bring it into the "Key Name" and original "key Definition" screens.
  2. Click on button 'Remap', then either enter a key of your choice or check the box 'Select from group set' to bring out the pre-set "Escape code" for selections.
  3. Click on button 'Insert' to replace the original key definition.
  4. Repeat the steps 1 through 3 until all keys are mapped
  5. Click on button 'Save' to save the keymap setting. If the settings are not saved, they will be lost with the closing of the VT420 session.

Color setup for VT420

The default terminal viewing coler matches remote host's color. If you want to create your own viewing background and forground color session, from VT420 connection screen, click 'Setup' to bring up the drop-down menu. Select 'Color Map' to open up next dialog box.


To setup backgroud color, select the color in the 'Fore' column, then select the color in the 'Back' column; click on the first '<=' button on the top. This will set the backgroud color for text. Next, select the color in the 'Fore' column, the word "sample" will come up to show the color setting sample. If you like it, click on the top '<=' button again, then click 'OK' to complete the setting.

Using VT420 Log

Vt420 uses 'Log' to capture an active screen session. From its connection window, click on 'File/Log' to bring up windows file manager screen. Select the folder and type in the file name to save the file. The file then can be forwarded or printed later.
