Font

Using Omni X "Font" utility, you can check your font list, delete fonts and install new fonts for use.

The first thing you need to do is to 'Load' the fonts. Omni X has its default font list in folder C:\program files\OmniX\fonts. If you want to load your own fonts, you need to copy the font files into this folder, and compile them into the MS Windows .fon format for Omni-X to use. You can choose to compile one file at a time or all files into one file. The only font types can be compiled by Omni-X are "BDF" and "PCF".

With all font files in place, from 'New Font' drop-down menu select the one wanted and click on 'Load Font'. The loaded font will show up in the lower section of the dialog box.

Of the four buttons in the lower section of the dialog box, click on 'Show font list' to view and edit the text file of font list. Click on 'Show font alias' to view and edit the text file of font alias.

Modify Winmode

Omni-X lets you choose whether you want to use Microsoft Windows (Multiple Mode) as the X window manager, or start a host-based window manager program (Single Mode) such as Motif or OpenLook.

Please note, if select to use XDMCP' mode for connection, you must set winmode to 'single'.

Modify RGB color

Omni-X allows you to edit the color database which associates with displaying information on the screen for your X client.

RGB database is a collection of color names and their values stored in a “RGB.TXT” file under the “xnfs” directory. Click on EDIT enables you to modify the RGB.TXT file. To change your RGB setting to the Omni-X predefined format, click on RESET.

The syntax for the RGB.TXT file is as follow:

The color values and names can be modified or created as needed to be used with any X-client. The RGB values range from 0-255 in decimal. Upper- and lower-case letters are treated as the same.

Connect with Xopen

There are three selections here. REXEC is the default value that requires you to provide both account name and password to connect. If you select RSH, the Password will not be required here. However, you may have to bepre-authorized to use it. This means you need to setup Host Editor to use it. Telnet allows you to establish the connection through telnet.

To run Xopen, you give a name to 'Xopen file name' and fill in the remote host's information, then click on 'Go' to start the connection.

The place where you need to pay attention is the Command line. This is the path of xterm on the unix system with display options. Because different unix systems may have different path and option requirements, you need to be specific of them before making the connection.

Connect with PC-X server

From Omni-X program list, select "PC-X server" for all three XDMPC connection modes you set in 'Startup'. This is the easies way to run Omni-X. One thing needs to keep in mind is you can't run 'Broadcast' mode when the remote host is not in the same subnet of the Omni-X system.
